The New Transparency

Principles:

  1. As few words as possible, as many words as necessary.
  2. No passive voice.
  3. No bold keywords.
  4. No bullets unless completely necessary.
  5. Conditionals belong in present tense.
  6. Take your time, there's no rush.
  7. Use a period first.
  8. Consistency is king.
  9. Novelty is the enemy of clarity.
  10. Sentences, paragraphs.
  11. Stay in the fiction (keep the mechanical bits minimal and separate).
  12. Write to be read. Do not write to not be read.
  13. One can never be both clever and skilled at the same time.
  14. Don't worry about sales numbers. Bad books sell just fine. Have loftier goals.
  15. No ad copy inside the book.
  16. Never never explain yourself.
  17. Every rule can be broken. If your pants are tight enough, no one will mind.
